YouTube has integrated AV1 and determines which codec to use with a specific algorithm. If you allow apps to be updated automatically, you should get the latest updates and improvements when we release them.
Since this is an early release, you might see some performance issues when playing AV1 videos.
This extension is an early beta version of the AV1 software decoder that lets you play videos that have been encoded using the AV1 video coding standard developed by the Alliance for Open Media. With AV1 Video Extension you can play AV1 videos on your Windows 10 device. AV1 is targeting an expected improvement of about 30% over VP9/HEVC with only reasonable increases in encoding and playback complexity.
